Google Digital Marketing Agencies and you'll end up scrolling for days. New agencies pop up every day, each claiming to be better than the rest. So, how do you decide if an agency is the right fit for your brand?

1.  What’s your objective?

Before finding a marketing agency, you need to understand your own marketing objectives. Do you want to increase brand awareness, generate leads, or drive sales? Or are you just in need of a rebrand? Do you already have an in-house marketing department but perhaps need assistance with the management of paid media?

Some agencies are stronger digitally, but their creative side is lacking, and others are focused on the full-marketing experience. Some are combined marketing agencies, that uses PR tactics and digital capabilities to market a product or service. Choosing a digital marketing agency will depend on your business needs and if the agency is able to provide you with the best resources to achieve the desired results.

2. Field of expertise

A good marketer should be able to market ANY type of service or goods. They should be able to follow a brief to the ‘T’ – no matter the type of business. If you are worried that an agency won’t be able to market your specific product to the right customers, ask them to provide you with a portfolio of previous clients. If they have experience in marketing different businesses with different objectives, they are likely to be able to implement a strategy tailored to your marketing objectives.

3.  Agility

In this day and age, it’s vital to have a marketing strategy that is agile enough to adapt to changes. The agency approach should also be able to navigate the client's needs and deliverables and foster continuous improvement.

To determine the agility of a new marketing agency, ask questions such as: how does the content approval process work, will the reports be based on a monthly, weekly, or quarterly basis? Can a strategy be adapted if the current strategy does not result in the desired results?

4.  Budget

The uncomfortable, but important conversation between the two parties. To market your business successfully – you need to decide on a marketing budget. An agency will be able to take your budget and allocate it towards the areas that will give you most bang for your buck. Find an agency that is willing to work within your budget, but also be aware of agencies that sound too good to be true. Remember, an experienced agency that employs the best in the industry, will come at a cost 😉.

5. Are you a match?

Meet the agency in person (or in these unprecedented times at least via a TEAMS or ZOOM call) to get to know the people working on your brand. Do you feel that their work ethic and process is the right fit for your business? Do you think they understand your field of business? Working with an agency, is based on mutual understanding and a solid relationship. It’s important that there is a synergy between the client and the agency, as both want to achieve the same goals, but that can’t happen without good communication and common ground.

Finding a digital marketing agency can be a daunting process, but when you find a good fit, it will be one of the best investments you make for your business.
