According to the Depositphotos Report, "2022 is the year of contrast, where the future stands side by side with the past." The report further investigates these 5 trends for 2022: 

#1 Metaverse 

A bit of a surprise when Facebook announced its name change to Meta, but looking at what to expect for this year, this may be one of Facebooks’ best moves. It is expected that digital spaces will acquire an even more realistic look with the help of AR and VR technology. The more the digital space evolves, the more ‘real’ and ‘real-time’ content people will want to see. They want to be part of the experience. 

“Designers will opt for well-thought-out 3D elements and motion graphics that bring a brand-new level of interactivity. To make audiences feel even more present, creators will amplify their projects with ambient music and immersive sound effects,” Deposit Photos reports. 

#2 Throwback to the 70’s 

Getting inspo from the previous generation is so trendy! It looks like holographic and grainy backgrounds, complex abstractions, a rich mix of bright or highly contrasting colours, and different interpretations of psychedelic line art will appear in graphic design. Bringing back the 70’s in design and art. 

Depositphotos explains that using a large number of design elements in one composition will provide designers with room for experimentation and boost the commercial potential of projects. Exciting! 

#3 AI 

AI will significantly impact content creation. Content creation is a vital part of a brand strategy, and AI provides creators and marketers a chance to tailor experiences and create unique and personalised content. AI-generated music will be more cost and time-effective. Background tracks on websites or apps will be tailored to fit a user's taste or mood… Creepy or cool?! ‘

Creative projects, campaigns, and ads will often feature custom soundtracks, which will result in a more memorable experience. Personalised content for the win. 

#4 A Walk Down Memory Lane 

Do you like retro?! Apparently, we find ourselves in a place where we feel nostalgic and if you can relate – it’s highly recommended to create content that uses the pastel colour palettes. Think pink, green, yellow, and blue. 

Art and photos will use retro futuristic aesthetic. Look out for this trend of influencer social media accounts to brand campaigns and ads. 

#5 Science 

Good news for the geeks! Science is cool, again 😉. Deposit Photos explains: “Science fiction fueled technological advancements in the past, until it became a reality. Stanley Kubrick’s space travel or Ridley Scott's flying cars don't instill fear or blow our minds anymore. In contrast, they spark inspiration, curiosity, and excitement in the global creative community.” Does science excite you?

Eccentric shapes and forms, illustrations of intelligent robots and space travel equipment, as well as dark shades and metallic textures will be used to provide creative projects with new dimension.
